Yugang Bao’s Former Residence is located in Dongqifang, Zhongbao Village, Zhuangshi Street, Zhenhai District, Ningbo City, and was built during the Qing Dynasty. It covers an area of 1026 square meters and faces south with a northward orientation. The residence is composed of the main house, front left and right side rooms, and back left and right side rooms, all of which are brick and wood structures with hard mountain roofs. The main house: five rooms wide and two lanes deep on two floors, with an eight-column and eight-beam front porch; Front left and right side rooms: each with two rooms wide and single-story, with a five-column and five-beam front porch; Back left and right side rooms: each with a single room wide and single-story, with a five-column and six-beam front porch.
Yugang Bao (1918-1991), a native of Zhongbao Village in Zhuangshi, Zhenhai, attended Ye’s Zhongxing School in Zhuangshi during his youth. After 1932, he went to Ningbo, Kunming, and other places to learn business, and later to Shanghai. In 1940, he started working at the Central Trust Bureau’s Hengyang office, and was successively promoted to manager of the Hengyang Industrial and Mining Bank and the Chongqing Industrial and Mining Bank. In 1948, he, along with several friends, opened a Chinese business firm. By 1955, he had transitioned into the shipping industry and owned seven cargo ships by year-end. In 1970, he established the Universal Shipping Group Co., Ltd. and served as the chairman of the board. In 1975, he was honored with the title of ‘King of the World’s Shipping.’ By 1978, his shipping group had more than 170 large and giant vessels with a total tonnage of 21 million tons, ranking first in the world’s shipping industry. Additionally, he took the lead in donating to mainland China and encouraged fellow ‘Ningbo Gang’ members to contribute generously to mainland construction. Yugang Bao, a shipping magnate and a patriot who loves his hometown, holds significant value for celebrity research. His former residence is a cultural heritage site in Zhejiang Province.
