Yunlong Mountain has a winding shape like a dragon. It is named because there is often mist lingering on the mountain. Although Yunlong Mountain is only 142 meters above sea level, there are many cultural relics and historic sites. It has always been a famous scenic spot in northern Jiangsu. When Su Dongpo was the prefect of Xuzhou in the Song Dynasty, he often climbed the mountain to enjoy the scenery and lay drunk on the rocks.
The stele inscription of ‘Notes on the Crane-Releasing Pavilion’ written and calligraphed by him still exists on the mountain. From the Northern Wei Dynasty to modern times, there are large stone Buddhas from the Northern Wei Dynasty, cliff carvings from the Tang and Song Dynasties, the Crane-Releasing Pavilion, the Crane-Inviting Pavilion, the Crane-Drinking Spring, and the former residence of Zhang Shanren in the Song Dynasty; historical cultural relics and historic sites such as the Xinghua Zen Temple in the Ming Dynasty, the Dashiyan, Shanxi Guild Hall, Boat Hall, Imperial Stele Pavilion, and Stele Gallery in the Qing Dynasty. Now, a large number of historical scenic spots such as the Yousuixuan, Dongtianxiaolu, Kuayunge, Yunlong Academy, Xinghua Village, Viewing Platform, and Tongxintai have been restored and newly built.
