Yunzhong Daqi is a picturesque valley and village in Jingning, ideal for photography and painting enthusiasts seeking inspiration. Unspoiled by large-scale tourism development and with limited accessibility, the journey involves a 20-kilometer mountain road drive, resulting in fewer visitors and a tranquil atmosphere where locals continue their daily lives. The scenic area is well-marked with clear signs along the way and well-maintained paths that are easy to walk on. Visitors can enjoy a leisurely stroll up small hills and explore ancient villages, a delightful experience. Avoiding the crowds during the Golden Week holiday, one can find solace in this serene environment. Wandering around Daqi village is free of charge, while visiting ticketed attractions requires purchasing tickets. Starting from the visitor center, crossing Longxi Bridge and turning left leads to the mountain trail. The mountain is not tall, but it is lush with greenery, making for a pleasant walk and fresh air. From the observation platform at the summit, one can overlook the ancient village surrounded by greenery, with the impressive Cryptomeria King and Sishi Temple visible in the distance. Following the trail down the mountain, near the foot of the hill, is the famous Daqi waterfall, ‘Snowflake Qi’, which usually has little water and requires a ticket to contact the administrator for the waterfall display. Approximately 400 meters from Snowflake Qi, one enters the ancient village area. The first sight is the Huoguan Bridge spanning the stream, a grander structure than the Hu Bridge behind it, a Qing Dynasty three-story wooden structure that visitors can explore inside. From bottom to top, there are Guan Gong Temple, Wenchang Pavilion, and Kuixing Tower. Across from the bridge lies the treasure of Yunzhong Daqi, Sishi Temple, a rare religious site that combines three teachings, housing three historical buildings. The central Mahavira Hall is a genuine Song Dynasty structure, particularly valuable. The Masheng Palace inside is for worshiping the local deity, Lady Ma. Climbing the Ming Dynasty bell tower outside offers a panoramic view of the surrounding valleys and rice fields. Next to the Mei Clan Ancestral Hall outside Sishi Temple stands the Cryptomeria King, said to be 1500 years old, with a massive trunk that is hollow but still sports lush green foliage, a local attraction. Turning left at the intersection near Huoguan Bridge, one can see a pair of flagpoles across the stream, erected by a local, Mei Dongkui, after he passed the imperial examination. The area is not far from the scenic area’s exit. If time permits, wandering through the village’s alleys to see the old houses with individual courtyards is a pleasure. Around the exit’s parking lot, there are seven or eight hotels and farmhouses, with standard rooms priced at around 100 yuan, offering decent conditions. The location is not far from Taishun, and for those interested in viewing a covered bridge, it can be visited en route. For those interested in natural scenery, a recommendation is to visit Xiaozuo Village, just five or six kilometers away, where the entire village is built on terraces, and photographs taken during the water release and autumn harvest seasons are particularly beautiful.
