Yuyan Academy is located in Luogang Town, Baiyun District. Initially named Luokeng Jing She, it was established in 1219, the twelfth year of Jiading during the reign of Emperor Ningzong of the Southern Song Dynasty by Zhong Qichu, a local gentleman who was a successful candidate in the highest imperial examinations. In the Ming Dynasty, private academies were not prosperous, so Yuyan Academy gradually declined and then became Luofeng Temple, a Buddhist hall.

The main hall and side halls of the temple were built on the east side of the original academy. There is a wall and a door between them. The temple and the academy form a situation of being both combined and separated. The whole building is nestled against the mountain and beside the valley, arranged in a line. There are two rows vertically and horizontally divided into three parts in the east, west and middle.

The structure is compact and the design is exquisite. On the west side, there are Yuyan Hall and Qingyu Tower. There is a square stone pool between the tower and the hall. The mountain spring between the mountains on the east side of the temple meanders down, winding inside and outside the temple and tinkling into the pool. The pool water is neither dry nor overflowing and is crystal clear. The temple is enhanced a lot by it.

The temple preserves many inkstone carvings of literary scholars since the Tang and Song Dynasties.

Opening hours: From January 1st to December 31st, open from 08:00 to 17:00.
