Embark from Langya Port and travel southeast for 0.9 kilometers by boat to reach the island adorned with green trees and red-tiled roofs, known as Zhaitang Island. It derives its name from the historical event where ‘Qin Shi Huang, upon ascending Langya, had his attendants fast here’ (as recorded in ‘Zhucheng County Records: Rivers and Mountains’).

In the past, an actual ‘fast hall’ existed on the island, which was later destroyed but its remnants remain. Zhaitang Island stretches 1.6 kilometers from north to south and 0.25 kilometers from east to west, with a coastline circumference of 5.18 kilometers and an area of 0.4 square kilometers. The island is divided into the South Island and North Island, connected by a narrow sandbar.
The North Island is flat and home to over 300 households, predominantly engaged in fishing. Every household in the village is a traditional island fisherman’s home. On the right side of the village lies a sandy harbor for mooring fishing boats and ferries, where the scene of boats entering and exiting with long poles and anchors evokes a simple and rustic charm. On the left side, the intertidal zone features rugged reefs, where one can collect sea snails, catch crabs, and tap mussels during low tide… you are bound to find rewards.
The South Island is a small hill with an elevation of 69 meters, as if the island’s head is held high. The hill is covered with lush green pines and shaded paths through the forest. The island’s rocky cliffs are steep, offering many thrilling landscapes and numerous spots ideal for fishing with a rod. The Black Stone Cave on the southern headland and the colorful reefs that emerge and disappear with the tides add a unique and fascinating charm to the area.
At the top of the hill stands a lighthouse, 11.8 meters high, built in the 1950s of the last century. Despite the erosion of sea winds, it has a weathered appearance, adding a historical atmosphere to the island. The opening hours and specific business status are subject to the daily opening conditions.
