Experts have conducted research on the movable type printing technology in Dongyuan Village and believe that its operation process is identical to the records in Wang Zhen’s ‘Agricultural Book’ from eight hundred years ago. Based on this, the Chinese Woodblock Printing Cultural Village and Exhibition Hall were established. The exhibition hall is a single-story main building with two-story wooden structures on either side, housing offices, reception rooms, exhibition halls, and a demonstration hall for the entire process of woodblock printing, showcasing the complete operation process of the ancient ‘woodblock printing technique’. The Dongyuan woodblock printing technique is the only known technique in China that has been preserved and is still in use, with a history of over 800 years. It is considered a living fossil of the world’s printing techniques and was announced as an intangible cultural heritage by the State Council on June 14, 2008, and was included in UNESCO’s list of ‘Intangible Cultural Heritage in Need of Urgent Protection’ on October 15, 2010. The woodblock printing technology here fully inherits the traditional craftsmanship of ancient China, perfectly recreating the working scene of one of the four great inventions of ancient times – movable type printing, and serves as a tangible proof of the origin of movable type printing in China. The exhibition hall is open all year round from 00:00 to 23:30, with specific visiting hours from 8:00 to 18:00 (last entry at 18:00).
