The Zhan Tianyou Memorial Hall, part of the China Railway Museum, is located on the north side of the Badaling Great Wall in Yanqing County. It is a specialized memorial hall established to commemorate the patriotic Zhan Tianyou, who made outstanding contributions to the history of modern railway construction in China, and was opened in November 1987.
The memorial hall consists of a memorial hall, a preface hall, and three exhibition halls, showcasing Zhan Tianyou’s journey from his studies to his involvement in railway construction, his resistance against the Qing Dynasty’s railway protection, and his support for the Xinhai Revolution. It also displays surveying instruments, tools, seals, medals, and construction tools of the Beijing-Zhangjiakou Railway used by Zhan Tianyou during his lifetime. The building, covering an area of approximately 1800 square meters, is built above the Badaling Tunnel of the Beijing-Zhangjiakou Railway, a railway independently constructed under Zhan Tianyou’s supervision. It is built along the mountain slope in a simple style, facing the bronze statue and tomb of Zhan Tianyou at the Qinglong Bridge Railway Station inside the Great Wall from a distance. Above the building, there is a large-scale relief, about 41 meters long and 5 meters high, depicting Zhan Tianyou’s giant portrait and contributions against the backdrop of modern Chinese history, highlighting the historical role of Zhan Tianyou’s achievements in the construction of the motherland.
