Zhang Beiwen, an American female badminton player, was born on July 12, 1990. Originally from Liaoning, China, she moved to Singapore in 2003 and became a permanent resident in January 2006, later naturalizing as a Singaporean citizen in May 2007. In April 2008, following a disagreement with the women’s singles coach, Wang Junjie, she left the Singapore national badminton team to play abroad, only to return to the team in October of the same year.

During a trip to the United States in 2012, Zhang participated in the US Open and subsequently decided to continue her career in the US. In January 2018, she competed in the India Open badminton championship, where she faced the top-seeded and home player, P. V. Sindhu. In an intense three-game battle, Zhang Beiwen ultimately triumphed over her opponent with a score of 2-1 (21-18, 11-21, 22-20), securing her first women’s singles super series championship in her professional career.

On July 29, 2021, during the Tokyo Olympics badminton competition, Zhang Beiwen was competing in the women’s singles round of 16 against He Bingjiao. After losing the first game 14-21, He Bingjiao led 9-7 in the second game when Zhang Beiwen suffered an Achilles tendon rupture, forcing her to retire from the match.
