In Tianxin Village, Wujiang District, Shaoguan, there lies a Zhang family cemetery where Zhang Jiuling, a Tang Dynasty chancellor known for his poems including ‘The moon rises over the sea, and we share this moment at the ends of the earth,’ is buried. Born in Shaoguan during the Kaiyuan era, Zhang Jiuling was renowned for his integrity and forthrightness, which led to his demotion by the later decadent Emperor Xuanzong. He passed away at home during a visit to his hometown for tomb-sweeping in his later years. This tomb was constructed in memory of this noble poet. The cemetery is a simple tile-roofed house with the inscription ‘Zhang Wenxian Temple,’ nestled among dense woods with fallen leaves covering the ground, exuding an air of antiquity and solemnity. On the wall of the temple, there is a square stele from the Kangxi era of the Qing Dynasty, inscribed with the characters ‘Grace Endures Through Generations,’ quietly resting here, as if Zhang Jiuling’s life of purity and integrity left no trace in the bustling era. The site is open year-round from 08:00 to 17:30, with specific operating conditions subject to the day’s opening status.
