Zhang Xueliang’s Harbor Construction Monument in Huludao

The Zhang Xueliang Harbor Construction Monument is located on the Xishan of Huludao Port Wharf. Below the cliff is the rough sea, and to the southwest is the coastal slope. The monument is a relic – the Commencement Monument of Huludao Port Construction – with an inscription written by General Zhang Xueliang and personally unveiled by him at the groundbreaking ceremony. In 1988, it was listed as a provincial-level cultural relic protection unit.
There is one monument, which is located inside a stele pavilion. The stele is 18 meters in total height, with a neat, solemn, beautiful and generous design. The base of the stele pavilion is a perfect circle, with a diameter of 7.2 meters, and there are three-step walkways at the edge. A 7-meter-high square wall is built on the platform, with passages on all four sides. Four 2.6-meter-high cement square columns support the beam frame. The eaves of the four steep slopes of the pavilion roof are upturned, and there is a round wedge tip on the top. The stele pavilion is 5 meters in total height and covers an area of 43 square meters.

Inside the stele pavilion, there is one white marble stele. The stele is in the shape of a flat cuboid, with double shoulders on both sides and decorated with double circular stripes. It stands on a rectangular base, surrounded by 8 white granite square columns, with an octagonal guardrail formed by iron chains. The stele is 1.35 meters in height, 0.66 meters in width and 0.25 meters in thickness. The stele faces east, relying on the mountain in the north, facing the Bohai Sea in the south, close to the city streets and factories in the east, and connecting to the mountain road in the west. The terrain is high and flat, sheltered from the wind and sunny, with a quiet environment, making it an ideal location for the monument.
