The ancient city cultural tourism area has officially signed a contract as a self-driving cooperation scenic area. Zhanhua Ancient City is a millennium-old town with profound historical and cultural heritage. Since its establishment in 1042, it was first called Zhao’an County, and later Zhanhua County, abbreviated as Zhancheng. In 1957, the county seat was moved east to Fugu. In 1982, Zhancheng was renamed as the ancient city. More than 10 historical monuments and cultural sites such as the old county government office, Wenfengtai, and Confucian Temple still remain. Intangible cultural heritages such as Bohai drum, paper-cutting, and mandarin ducks marrying old eagles are preserved among the people. Tourist attractions in the ‘Cultural Ancient City’ scenic area include: First, Wenxuan Square. At the entrance of the Kuixing Tower scenic area in the ‘Cultural Ancient City’, on the towering stone archway, the engraved characters ‘Wenxuan Square’ are dazzling. Second, Wende Bridge. There are a total of seven steps. Taking the homophonic sounds of ‘seven’ and ‘rise’, it implies the meaning of making progress step by step in literary attainments. Third, Kuixing Tower. It is 27.7 meters high. There are a total of 47 steps, also taking the homophonic sound of seven. It houses a statue of Kuixing. Kuixing is the god in mythology who is in charge of literary fortune and articles. It was inaugurated and put into use on October 4, 2010. Fourth, Wenfengtai. In the southeast of the Nanhu Scenic Bay, there is a soil platform about 50 meters in circumference and more than 10 meters high. The famous Wenfengtai stands there, reflecting with the Kuixing Tower on the city wall. Fifth, Confucian Temple. It is a place for cultivating talents in ancient times. The main building, Dacheng Treasure Hall, is 28 meters long, 14 meters wide, and 13 meters high. It officially received tourists on October 1, 2014. Inside the main entrance of the Dacheng Hall, there is a statue of Confucius, and on both sides are four accompanying statues. Visiting the Confucian Temple, one can be deeply influenced by Confucian culture. Sixth, the charm of Nanhu. Since ancient times, it has never been seen to dry up at the bottom in droughts, nor overflow in floods. It is extremely astonishing. Seventh, Zhanhua Folk Custom Museum. One museum gives an overview of Zhanhua’s past and present. Eighth, People’s Drum Academy. Bohai drum has a unique style. ‘Talking about the past and present, it tells all the flavors of human life. Stirring up the muddy and promoting the clear, it inherits national culture.’ Each scenic spot in the ‘Cultural Ancient City’ relies on different carriers. Each carrier gives full play to its own characteristics and shows the rich connotations of the ancient city’s historical culture from different aspects.
