Zhanshan is located in the north of Chongren Town and is praised as ‘erect and beautiful’ in the ‘Great Qing Unification Records’, known as the number one mountain in the west of Shan. Surrounded by rolling hills and peaks, Zhanshan boasts the picturesque scenery of Bi Jia and Yanshan, the murmuring waters of the ancient stream of Di Jin, and the clear waters of Zhangcun Reservoir. The Tantuo is faintly visible, and the Baishuikeng waterfall hangs from the mountains and rivers. Fields and villages stretch out, presenting a fairyland scene. In the Eastern Jin Dynasty, the eminent monk Bo Daoyou loved the beauty of Zhanshan, built a hut, set up an altar for Buddhist worship, and became famous for his poetry and chess. He entered Tiantai and never returned, and later generations built Zhanshan Temple in his memory. The wooden carvings of deities, the ten-thousand-year-old stage, the hundred-year-old tiger and leopard skins, and the thousand-year-old cypress in the south of the temple have become precious cultural relics of Zhanshan. At the foot of Zhanshan, the ancient village of Ershidu has been home to many celebrities since ancient times. Notable figures include Song Dynasty Grand Master Yao Shunming, Song Dynasty Minister Yao Xian, the outstanding scientist Yao Kuan who was the first to study specific gravity, revolutionary soldier and army commander Zhang Boqi, contemporary scholar and authority on printing history, Annam history, and bibliography Zhang Xiumin, and the Yue Opera performing artists Zhang Yunbiao, Zhang Yin, and the famous playwright Zhang Bo. The Ershidu Ming and Qing Street is also a scenery of Zhanshan, about one mile long, with a large number of Ming and Qing architectural groups such as Duixi Ancestral Hall, Jiefutang, Junzitang, and Zhang Boqi’s former residence, as well as the sites of Huixian Bridge, Jingsitang, and Taishi Ridge.
