The Zhao Dayou Memorial Hall (Guanshan Cultural Relics Museum) is located in the mountain recess surrounded by pine and bamboo in Qiaoliang Village, Daxi Town, Wenling City. It is backed by mountains on the west, north, and east sides, facing south. Constructed to commemorate Zhao Dayou, the Minister of War in the Ming Dynasty’s Nanjing government, the memorial hall was financed by voluntary donations from the public and government subsidies, and was built in stages over 25 years starting in 1991. The memorial hall complex includes: the gatehouse, Guanshan Cultural Relics Museum, Zhao Dayou Memorial Hall, and the comprehensive building.
The Guanshan Cultural Relics Museum, a traditional flat-roofed building with five rooms, was completed in 1991 and houses cultural relics such as Song, Yuan, and Ming dynasty tomb inscriptions, stone tablets, and archways; the Zhao Dayou Memorial Hall, a replica of a Ming dynasty-style building with five rooms, was completed in 2002, featuring a wooden statue of Zhao Dayou, calligraphy works, and life stories on the walls; the comprehensive building and Zhao Dayou’s cemetery were fully completed in 2014.
The entire memorial hall is enclosed by a wall, forming an independent whole with a courtyard-style structure. In front of the memorial hall, there are two stone tiger pavilions housing a pair of stone tigers, which are under municipal cultural protection. In front of the pavilions, there is a pond, a small stone bridge, and rocks by the pond, all of which are relics from the Ming dynasty. Beside the pond, there are famous trees such as peach, willow, magnolia, hibiscus, arborvitae, ginkgo, camellia, red maple, camphor, and cypress.
The memorial hall aims to collect cultural relics, remember the virtues of the ancestors, and inherit and promote excellent historical and traditional culture. It is open to the public for free. Various organizations frequently visit the memorial hall for activities. The opening hours are from 07:00 to 11:00 and from 13:00 to 17:00 all year round.
