After nearly two decades, Zhao Gang returns to Shenzhen with fifteen recent works, presenting a series of still-life paintings themed around flowers and meat at the Dplus Art Museum. Compared to his early creations, these recent works reflect the artist’s shift in creative themes—years of wandering have rekindled Zhao Gang’s desire for a stable life, and it appears he has shifted his creative focus to the small or everyday details of life. The exhibition is jointly hosted by Dplus Art Museum and Lisson Gallery. Previously, Zhao Gang presented his solo exhibition ‘Carnivores’ at the Lisson Gallery’s Beijing space in May 2024. Zhao Gang’s connection with Shenzhen dates back seventeen years. In the early 1980s, Zhao Gang traveled from Beijing to study and work overseas. After more than twenty years of development in several European and American countries, he returned to China and held his first domestic museum solo exhibition ‘Scenery·Characters·My Culture’ at the He Xiangning Art Museum in Shenzhen in 2007. As one of the first four special economic zones to open up in China, Shenzhen has always played a significant role in the development and promotion of contemporary Chinese art. Now, Zhao Gang’s return to Shenzhen after nearly two decades is of great significance. The exhibition is open from December 3rd to January 19th, with specific business hours subject to the day’s opening status.
