Zhaoming Ancient Temple, as a millennium royal temple, was built in the first year of Datong in the Liang Dynasty of the Southern Dynasties. It is said to be built by Prince Zhaoming Xiao Tong, hence the name ‘Zhaoming’. In 1534 (the thirteenth year of Jiajing in the Ming Dynasty), it was renovated. Inside the temple, there are mountain gates, the Great Buddha’s Hall, bell towers, dharma halls, meditation halls, sutra depositories, Pure Land halls, jade Buddha towers, White-robed Pavilions and hexagonal brick pagodas. The base area of the pagoda is about 47 square meters, and the height of the pagoda is about 25.6 meters. It has seven floors and is a pavilion-style hollow brick pagoda imitating wooden structure. There are escalators in the pagoda. Standing on the top of the pagoda, one can overlook the panoramic view of Tongcheng.
