Zhedong Eighteen Ponds is renowned for its eighteen exquisite ponds nestled in the midst of a canyon. Each of the eighteen ponds is characterized by its emerald clarity and tranquility, with the water’s flow creating a dynamic and undulating landscape. The scene is further enhanced by the snow-like waterfalls and jade-like ponds, set against the backdrop of steep mountains, dense forests, and majestic rocks, forming a visually striking landscape.
Located in the western Pingtian Township of Huangyan, within the village of Tongshukeng, Zhedong Eighteen Ponds can be found by following a bamboo forest downwards. At a turn, two streams gently meet on a rock pile, forming a clear spring. Above, the sun burns like fire, while the clear stream water beckons visitors to splash and play. This area is known as Shuanglongguan, considered a treasured location due to its mountain and water features. The streams from the bamboo forest converge here before cascading into the deep canyon, where Zhedong Eighteen Ponds reside.
The scenic spot includes ten attractions such as ‘Tongshuliujin’, ‘Chongmen Kai Tian’, ‘Changtan Youlong’, ‘Tie Liu Feixie’, ‘Gaotai Suying’, ‘Huangyan Huishi’, and ‘Lvke Canxiu’. Some of these names carry a rich revolutionary history, as this area was once a battleground for the Red Army. The hardships of the mountains and waters bear witness to the blood and sweat of the soldiers. For instance, ‘Pobi Tai’ commemorates the Zhejiang Southern Guerilla Column’s Kelang Brigade First Squadron overcoming numerous obstacles to achieve a decisive victory, while ‘Tie Liu Pu’ honors a guerrilla unit that was once stationed and fought valiantly here.
