Zhengguo Temple, also known as Foye Temple, is located at the eastern foot of Ruishan Mountain in Zhengguo Town, 17 kilometers northeast of Licheng Town, Guangzhou. 1.5 kilometers east of Zhengguo Temple, there are three large characters of ‘Becoming a Buddha Rock’ engraved in the first year of Huangyou. Zhengguo Temple was built in the third year of Qingyuan in the Southern Song Dynasty (1197). It was renovated in the Ming and Qing dynasties. The existing building area is 750 square meters. It is an ancient building with three entrances, three buildings, beam-lifting style, hard mountain top and hip roof. One of the major characteristics of Zhengguo Temple is its exquisite architectural decoration art. The whole building is antique, majestic and magnificent, especially famous for three supports: ‘lotus support, swallow support, dragon and phoenix support’; three carvings: ‘stone carving, wood carving, relief’. It fully reflects the style and characteristics of folk ancient architecture art in Lingnan in the Ming Dynasty. The roof ridge decoration is relatively gorgeous and eye-catching in the whole building decoration.
