Zhengqi Mountain, also known as the famous Chess Mountain, is located 20 kilometers southeast of the local area, at the border where it meets the two counties of Wendeng and Rongcheng. With an elevation of 483.7 meters, it is one of the highest peaks in Huancui District.
There are five peaks on Zhengqi Mountain, arranged in an east-west line. Historically, each of these peaks had a temple, hence the name ‘Five Temples Mountain’. The central peak is called Yuhuangding, which features a huge stone that is square and table-like, with a deep color and natural boundaries, resembling a chessboard. It is said that this is where immortals played chess, and thus the mountain got its name, which is a marvel of nature. The mountain boasts a variety of natural landscapes such as the Self-coming Stele, White Goose Stone, Earth Spring, Water Cave, Immortal’s Footprints, Chaoyang Cave, Fire Stone Cave, Monk’s Cave, Heavenly Ladder, and the Great Solitary Stone. From the east of Kunyu Mountain, Zhengqi Mountain is the tallest, so when you reach the summit, you will find all the surrounding mountains at your feet and the vast sea waves at your fingertips, offering a panoramic view of a myriad of scenes. The mountain is crisscrossed with ravines, lush with forests, adorned with blooming flowers, and dotted with ancient caves and peculiar rocks, making it a place of great delight and relaxation.Zhengqi Mountain
