The Zhenwu Pavilion is located in the Rongzhou Ancient City scenic area. It is known as one of the ‘Four Famous Towers in Jiangnan’ together with Yellow Crane Tower, Yueyang Tower and Tengwang Pavilion. The Zhenwu Pavilion was built in the first year of Wanli in the Ming Dynasty (1573), and the Jinglue Terrace under it was built in the second year of Qianyuan in the Tang Dynasty (759), both with a long history. The amazing mortise and tenon structure of dougong, the simple and elegant decoration, and the pavilion that remains intact after many earthquakes and strong winds exude the wisdom and glory of ancient Chinese architecture. The most amazing part of the Zhenwu Pavilion is the suspended gold pillar on the second floor. It and the eaves are like two ends of a balance. Connected by the eaves pillars, they achieve balance, so that the pavilion stands firm, fully reflecting the application of the ‘lever principle’ by the ancients, which is truly amazing.
