Zhong Tianmen is the convergence point of the east and west climbing trails of Mount Tai, and also the endpoint of the mountain road. This location marks the halfway point of the ascent, a place that must be passed on the way up and down. Constructed during the Qing Dynasty, Zhong Tianmen features a two-pillar, single-gate stone archway. In ancient times, Mount Tai was known for its many tigers, and an ancient temple was built to the north of the archway to worship the Black Tiger God. Today, the temple houses a statue of the Wealth God Zhao Gongmiao riding a tiger with a whip. To the east lies an antique-style tea house, to the southwest is the Zhongxi Hotel, and to the northwest is the Zhong Tianmen cable car station.
Situated in a valley, Zhong Tianmen is surrounded by magnificent scenery with steep mountains and broad valleys, embraced by clusters of pavilions and towers. To the east stands the Zhongxi Mountain, a striking and beautiful peak, offering views of sunrises and sunsets; to the west is the Phoenix Ridge, winding and stretching, providing a distant view of the majestic Aolai Peak and an overlook of the city’s new appearance. Standing beneath the archway and looking north, one can see the towering Dai Peak, with mountains bowing around it, lush forests, and flying springs, with cable cars soaring through the sky, forming a natural painting.
After the toil of the lower half of the mountain journey, visitors arriving here have ascended to the ‘mid-heaven,’ and all feel refreshed and delighted. The opening hours are all year round, open all day long.
