Zhongjian Island is located at the southern end of the Xisha Islands, Sansha City, Hainan Province, China. It is 50 kilometers southwest of Huaguang Reef in the northeast, about 90 kilometers from Jinqing Island, the main island of Yongle, and about 178 kilometers from Yongxing Island, the main island of Xisha. Chinese fishermen commonly call it Luodao or Banluzhi. Now it is named to commemorate the warship Zhongjian in 1946. Some say it belongs to the Yongle Islands, and some say it belongs to the scattered islands of Xisha. With an altitude of more than 2 meters, the land area has been reduced from 1.5 square kilometers to 1.2 square kilometers due to the erosion of wind and waves. Typhoons and spring tides often submerge most of the island. When the tide is high, Zhongjian Island is only as large as two football fields, that is, 0.014 square kilometers, which is about one percent of when the tide is low. The reef where it is located is relatively large, about 7.5 square kilometers. The island is a grey sand island developed on the top of a platform reef, surrounded by sandbanks and with a residual shallow lagoon inside. The opening hours depend on the opening status on the day.
