Zhongpo Battery is located on Maxian Mountain in Mawei District, Fuzhou City, Fujian Province, on the hill behind Zhaozhong Shrine. There were originally three ancient batteries established to protect the shipyard, namely the Front Slope (Upper Slope), Middle Slope, and Rear Slope (Lower Slope) batteries. Today, the Front Slope and Rear Slope batteries have been destroyed, and only the Zhongpo Battery remains.
Climb the mountain along the small stone path beside the Memorial Pavilion next to Zhaozhong Shrine. After walking 228 steps, you will reach the Zhongpo Battery on the mountain. Zhongpo Battery was first built in 1868 and played a role in blocking the French landing during the Sino-French Majiang Battle. Later, it was destroyed.

After the war, Pei Yinsen, the minister of the shipyard, presided over the reconstruction. The ground of the battery was rammed with a mixture of glutinous rice juice and sanhe soil. It was completed in 1888, covering an area of 3,800 square meters, and equipped with 1 Krupp breech-loading gun of 210 mm and 2 Krupp guns of 120 mm. The Krupp guns were advanced guns produced in Germany at that time.

Due to more than 100 years of wind and rain erosion and human damage, the Front Slope and Rear Slope batteries have been abandoned.
