The Confucian Temple of the Prefectural School, originally situated at Zhongshan Square, was constructed by Prefect Li Yigeng in 1018, during the second year of the Tianxi era in the Northern Song Dynasty. Following the establishment of the Dacheng Hall, the Minglun Hall was also built. The temple and school are harmoniously integrated, featuring front and rear pan pools.

The pan pool, a semicircular water feature located at the entrance of the Confucian Temple, is complemented by a bridge known as the pan pool bridge. As part of the school’s entrance ritual, students must cross this bridge, a tradition that has earned the bridge the poetic name of ‘ascending the Dragon Gate’.
