The Zhou Family Compound scenic area is located in Jianyan Head Village, Fugiaoqiao Town, Lingling District, Yongzhou City, Hunan Province. It was initially constructed in the 29th year of the Jiajing era of the Ming Dynasty (1550) and completed in the 30th year of the Guangxu era of the Qing Dynasty (1904). The compound consists of six massive ancient residential courtyards, including Ziyan Mansion, Old Courtyard, New Courtyard, Red Gate Tower, Black Gate Tower, and the Four Major Family Courts, covering an area of over 120 acres with a construction area of 45,000 square meters.
It is a large and fully functional ancient residential complex in the southern region of Hunan, recognized as a national key cultural relics protection unit, and is known for its prestigious titles such as ‘The First Ancient Residence in Xiaoxiang’ and ‘Treasure of Southern Hunan Folk Houses’. In 2023, Lingling District further improved the scenic area of the Zhou Family Compound according to the national AAAA-level scenic area standards, enhancing the landscape, business formats, services, publicity, and facilities. The construction of the scenic area’s archway and additional tourist toilets was completed, the scenic area’s signage system was renovated and updated, and high-standard environmental management was implemented across the entire scenic area, elevating the hardware, standard management, service level, and promotional efforts to a new level.Opening hours are from 09:00 to 17:00 all year round.
