The Zhuji Museum, a landmark building in Jiyang New City, Zhuji City, is situated on Lingtang Mountain along Dongyi Road in Chengguan Town, Shaoxing City, adjacent to the Children’s Park. The main structure of the museum is constructed in a manner that follows the contours of the mountain, creating a sense of scattered heights and a grand presence. The architectural style is reminiscent of the Han Dynasty, with high platforms and square roofs, interconnected by a maze of winding corridors.

Within the museum, the Cultural Relics and Historical Sites Hall is dedicated to showcasing Zhuji’s extensive history, spanning 5,000 years. The exhibition is organized into three distinct sections: the ancient capital of Yue, a prosperous county in eastern Zhejiang, and a region renowned for its distinguished individuals. By combining unearthed artifacts with written materials and images, the hall paints a picture of Zhuji as a place with a rich history, advanced agriculture, a concentration of famous products, a thriving culture, and a multitude of notable figures.

Additionally, the museum houses the Chen Hongshou Memorial Hall, which is dedicated to the memory of Chen Hongshou, a master of painting from a bygone era. This memorial hall not only documents Chen’s life but also displays works from the Chen school’s lineage.

The Pearl Hall is another distinctive feature of the museum, reflecting the local character of Zhuji, known as the ‘hometown of pearls’ in China. Recognized as the national center for folk art—specifically pearl stringing art—in 1996, the hall provides insights into the cultivation and processing of pearls. It also proudly displays the country’s rare pearl king—the Bright Moon Pearl—as well as an array of exquisite pearl handicrafts. The Folk Custom Hall reproduces the folk customs of Jiyang land in four parts: festival etiquette, daily life, agricultural and sideline production, and folk crafts.

The temporary exhibition hall is mainly used to hold various exhibitions with scientific, educational, and artistic nature from time to time.

The opening hours are from 09:00 to 17:00 from Tuesday to Sunday throughout the year; closed all day on Monday throughout the year.
