Zhuyuwan Scenic Area is located on the banks of the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal to the east of Yangzhou City. It is named after the historical Zhuyu Village known for its widespread planting of cornelian cherry trees and the river’s bend. Today, the scenic area integrates a zoo and botanical garden. It is primarily frequented by locals who bring their children to observe animals, have picnics, and enjoy spring outings.
The scenic area stretches from north to south, with the main entrance to the south. Many animals within are free-roaming, including wild squirrels that often visit tourists. Upon entering, one first arrives at the Crane Lake, which is home to swans, ducks, flamingos, and cranes. To the north of the lake lies Monkey Island, where monkeys can be seen. West of Monkey Island is the predator area housing lions, tigers, and bears. From the predator area, one can proceed to the herbivore section to observe sika deer, zebras, elks, and goats, among other animals. Additionally, the national treasure, the giant panda, can also be spotted within the scenic area. At the sea lion performance hall of the zoo, sea lions showcase their skills in ball balancing and ring tossing.
For those interested in赏花, from late winter to early spring, one can visit the Meihua Mountain, located in the middle and slightly to the west of the scenic area. It is the highest point and hosts thousands of plum trees.
