When they collectively discover a school of fish, they coordinate their hunting, swimming apart from each other, not diving deep, and moving in an unpredictable direction. They often perform forward lunges and head shakes to encircle their prey.
The dozens to hundreds of chased small fish are forced to jump out of the water, making the surface glitter with silver light, creating a spectacular scene. While hunting, seagulls circling in the air will promptly arrive, seizing the opportunity to swiftly fly over the water surface when the small fish emerge, snatching the fish.
