The Mexican pioneer painter Frida Kahlo, who was active in the first half of the 20th century, painted countless works in her lifetime. Many of her self-portraits explore profound topics such as illness, life and death, love, and self-image. She freezes the real life experiences of women. Her bold artistic style and fearless spirit have made her hailed as a symbol of feminist culture by later generations. After taking the struggling story of the fashion guru Chanel building her empire from scratch as the theme in ‘Chanel’, the Colombian-Belgian choreographer Ochoa once again pays tribute to feminist pioneers. The dance drama tells the legendary life of Frida. After ‘Chanel’, Ochoa once again collaborates with composer Peter Schalling. Schalling’s original music adds elements of Mexican traditional ‘mariachi music’, flamenco and jazz, adding more dramatic tension to the dance drama. Combined with Ochoa’s choreography style that emphasizes both classical and contemporary styles, Frida’s magnificent and bittersweet life story is vividly presented on stage.
