Joe Hisaishi developed an interest in ‘Minimal music’ when he was studying at the National Conservatory of Music and began his career as a contemporary music composer. Since the release of ‘Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind’ in 1984, he has produced ‘image albums’ for ten animated films directed by Hayao Miyazaki, including ‘Castle in the Sky’ and ‘Spirited Away’, and established the basic paradigm for the music production of this series of animated films. Hayao Miyazaki has always been recognized as an outstanding animator and director in Japan. He has attracted the attention of audiences with his amazing painting ability and endless film creativity. He has directed ten animated films such as ‘Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind’, ‘My Neighbor Totoro’, ‘Kiki’s Delivery Service’, ‘Princess Mononoke’, ‘Howl’s Moving Castle’, etc. and won the Golden Bear Award at the Berlin International Film Festival and the Oscar for Best Animated Feature Film with ‘Spirited Away’. In his 50-year career, Hayao Miyazaki has received many international accolades for his proficiency in storytelling and making animated films.
