The 33-meter-tall Nanhai Guanyin statue is a landmark of Mount Putuo, visible from many parts of the island. Visitors can approach the statue’s base to experience its solemn presence up close. On sunny days, the golden copper statue shines subtly under the sunlight, offering a sense of calm strength. The statue stands at 33 meters, with the Buddha at 18 meters, the lotus platform at 2 meters, and the statue’s base at 13 meters, making the entire structure majestic and impressive. The entire statue is cast in copper, with 13 kilograms of gold used for the Guanyin’s face, which glimmers brilliantly in sunlight. Visitors can worship, visit, and take photos. Below the Nanhai Guanyin statue is the Buddha Worshipping Square, which features an incense burner approximately 4-5 meters tall. It is believed that touching the incense burner can bring good fortune and eliminate disasters, making it smooth and shiny from the constant touch of tourists. To the south of the square, there are four large stone statues, each about 3.9 meters tall, exuding a sense of might and solemnity. Inside the base of the Nanhai Guanyin statue, there are two levels; the first level is the Merit Hall, adorned with 20 copper pillars depicting stories related to Guanyin Bodhisattva, as well as four woodcarved murals, making it worth a visit. The second level, the Guanyin Hall, houses 500 unique bronze Guanyin statues, each with a distinct appearance, allowing for a comparative visit. The statue is open year-round from 06:00 to 18:00. Preferential policies include free admission for children under 1.5 meters and for elderly people aged 70 and above.
