Fengshan Tower is located 55 kilometers north of the county town in the south of Chaozhou, in the village of Dabian, Guanbi Town, and was built during the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty, facing northeast to southwest. Up close, it appears as a circular fortress, while from a distance, it reveals a Bagua (Eight Trigrams) structure. The tower stands three stories high, approximately 11 meters tall. The fortress consists of three concentric rings, with the innermost ring housing three ancestral halls, the outer two rings being two and three stories respectively, and a total of 320 rooms between the outer and middle rings. There are two fortress gates. The entire fortress has a diameter of 94.5 meters, and behind it lies a triangular pond named ‘Sanyuan Pond,’ with clear waters visible to the bottom. Currently, 63 households and over 300 people reside within the tower.
Near Fengshan Tower, there are 12 other earthen buildings, namely Shuimei Tower, Shi Ma Tower, Yutian Tower, Yufeng Tower, Anbian Tower, Tianxia Tower, Xincheng Tower, Longtou Tower, Fengshan Tower, Yanyi Tower, Fengming Tower, and Guangyu Tower. If one likens Fengshan Tower to the core of a flower, with the other 12 earthen buildings as the petals, they form a large flower. If each earthen building is seen as a flower, then the crisscrossing roads are the branches, and the streams are the ribbons, tying together 13 diverse fresh flowers into a bouquet that is one of the largest in the world.Fengshan Tower
