Located on the eastern hillside of Kongwang Mountain, Longdong Hermitage is one of the oldest existing ancient temples in Lianyungang. Initially built during the Eastern Han Dynasty under the name Donghai Temple, it was later renamed Longwang Temple during the Northern Qi Wu Ping years, reconstructed as Longxing Temple in the Tang Dynasty, and finally changed to Longdong Hermitage after the Ming Longqing period.
In 1980, the state allocated special funds for its renovation, restoring the temple to its Ming Dynasty architectural style. Climbing the steep stone steps leads to the temple gate, which is adorned with a horizontal plaque inscribed with the words ‘Longdong Hermitage.’ The main hall is built on a platform over two meters high, with a width of 10 meters and a depth of 7 meters. In front of the hall stand two ancient trees that are over a thousand years old. The tree to the east is called Lusu, commonly known as ‘Glutinous Rice Tea.’ In spring, its tender leaves are collected, air-dried, and then steeped in water to drink, offering a fragrant and unique flavor. The tree to the west is an ancient cypress. The opening hours are from 09:00 to 11:00 and from 14:00 to 16:00 all year round, with the specific business status subject to the day’s opening conditions.Kongwang Mountain – Longdong Hermitage
