Chuanshan Scenic Area

Chuanshan, historically a sheltered harbor, is named for its resemblance to a ship in shape. The Chuanshan Scenic Area boasts beautiful scenery and a rich collection of legends, integrating natural landscapes with cultural landmarks. It is said that Tao Yuanming composed ‘The Peach Blossom Spring’ here, and Wu Cheng’en conceived ‘Journey to the West’ after a drunken visit to the Water Curtain Cave. The saying ‘A mountain need not be high to be famous if it is inhabited by immortals’ refers to the San Gongding of Chuanshan, which is believed to be the embodiment of the San Yuan Emperor and has been revered by people through the ages. The phrase ‘Visitors to Chuanshan enjoy a lifetime of peace’ originates here.

The ancient and mysterious essence of Chuanshan is profound. Chuanshan Scenic Area is now known as the ‘mystery’ among the six major tourism characteristics of Lianyungang City, which include sea, antiquity, divinity, mystery, peculiarity, and springs. It features dozens of attractions, such as the Sinlo Sailor’s Rock, Tao Gong Pavilion, Mysterious Word Cliff, Huashan’s Peril, Tao Yuanming’s Former Residence, Command Platform, National Land Stone, and the site of an ancient stockade.

‘Visit the Chuanshan Waterfall to view the panoramic scene of the nuclear power plant’ – standing at the Chuanshan Observation Deck, the spectacular view of the Tianwan Nuclear Power Station can be seen in its entirety. Chuanshan is also known as ‘China’s Little Lushan’ because its famous waterfalls are very similar to the Threefold Spring of Lushan. During the Qing Dynasty’s Daoguang period, Tao Yuanming’s descendant, Tao Shu, the Governor-General of Liangjiang and Minister of War, visited Chuanshan and regarded it as the ‘red trees, green mountains, slanting sun, old roads, peach blossoms, and flowing water’ described by Tao Yuanming. This view was approved by Emperor Daoguang, and a temple, ‘The Temple of Mr. Tao Jingjie, the Military Advisor of Jin,’ was built, making the reputation of the idyllic paradise famous worldwide.
