The Zhou Enlai Memorial Hall is located in the ancient city of ‘Old Huai’an’, less than 2 kilometers away from Zhou Enlai’s former residence. This museum area, which has won many major awards in the national architecture field, has symbolic meanings commemorating Zhou Enlai in the edges and heights of each building. The overall feeling is solemn and solemn. Here, you can learn about Zhou Enlai’s deeds and see many precious objects. The main buildings of the museum area are arranged on the north-south central axis. From south to north are the viewing platform, the main hall of the memorial hall, the annex hall, the bronze statue of Zhou Enlai, and the Xihuating imitating Zhongnanhai in Beijing. The main hall and the annex hall are located on the peninsula surrounded by water on three sides in the middle. Together with the Xihuating at the northernmost end of the central axis, they are the three main venues visited by tourists. The main hall has three floors. The first floor is an exhibition hall, which presents Zhou Enlai’s life with rich and detailed pictures, objects and TV screens.
The second floor is the viewing hall. In the center stands a 4.7-meter-high white marble full-body sculpture of Zhou Enlai.
The third floor is a viewing platform where you can overlook the museum area and look out over the ancient city of Huai’an.
The annex hall is an exhibition hall of Zhou Enlai’s life achievements and has two floors. The first floor has a celebrity calligraphy and painting hall and a video hall. The calligraphy and painting hall exhibits calligraphy and painting works donated to the Zhou Enlai Memorial Hall by well-known people at home and abroad and calligraphy and painting masters. The video hall mainly shows films about Zhou Enlai’s life achievements.
The second floor is office space.
The Xihuating imitating Zhongnanhai in Beijing has two floors because it allows tourists to get a glimpse of the mystery of Zhongnanhai. The ground floor is a cultural relics warehouse and office space. The second floor is a full-scale replica of the Xihuayuan where Zhou Enlai worked. It is a northern quadrangle in the style of the late Qing Dynasty.
When touring the museum area, don’t miss the Red Flag sedan and plane No. 2758 that Zhou Enlai once rode in. They are all placed outdoors.
