Embracing Wuxi’s Spring Splendor:
In the midst of spring’s embrace, our family set off on a four-day journey to Wuxi, Jiangsu, to immerse ourselves in the renowned cherry blossoms of March 2023. Spanning from March 18th to 21st, our whirlwind trip was a precious two and a half days of exploration amidst Wuxi’s grandeur.
Itinerary Highlights:
Despite the brevity of our stay, we meticulously planned our schedule to capture the essence of Wuxi. We explored the prestigious Taihu Lake Turtle Head Isle Scenic Area, celebrated as one of the ‘Top Three Cherry Blossom Viewing Spots in the World,’ and the burgeoning Nianhua Bay. Our cultural exploration included visits to:
- Qingming Bridge Ancient Canal
- Huishan Park
- Huishan Ancient Town
- Xue Fucheng’s Former Residence
- Qian Zhongshu’s Former Residence
- Gu Yuxiu Memorial Hall
Each destination enriched our travel experience, broadening our perspectives and delighting our senses.
First Impressions: Qingming Bridge Ancient Canal Scenic Area:
Our inaugural stop on Day 1, March 18th, was the Qingming Bridge Ancient Canal Scenic Area. After arriving in Wuxi from Shantou and checking into our hotel around 5 PM, we quenched our hunger at a local restaurant. Post-dinner, we strolled to the scenic area, a living testament to ancient water town architecture and houses from the Ming and Qing dynasties.
A Bustling Saturday Evening:
Nestled in Wuxi’s core, the area is a vibrant district with attractions, eateries, and shops. With it being a Saturday, the scenic area buzzed with weekend visitors. As night fell, the white-walled, black-tiled houses along the canal sprang to life with lights, and red lanterns reflected off the water, casting a beautiful glow on the ancient buildings and drawing numerous tourists to admire the scene.
Tips for Visiting:
- The Qingming Bridge Ancient Canal Scenic Area is more picturesque at night than during the day. Arriving in the afternoon or early evening allows you to enjoy both the daytime and the enchanting night views.
- During holidays, the number of tourists surges, especially around Nanchan Temple Commercial Street and Qingming Bridge, where the activity peaks.
Yuantouzhu Scenic Area – Cherry Blossom Valley:
Our journey also took us to the Yuantouzhu Scenic Area, known for its Cherry Blossom Valley and the Wu and Yue Inclusive Stone Carving. Offering a Cherry Blossom Viewing Tower, the area provides a panoramic view of the blossoms.
Nianhuawan, Wuxi:
Nianhuawan, another cherry blossom destination, was a highlight of our trip. Its beauty was captured in multiple visits, each time revealing new facets of its charm.
Qiming Bridge Ancient Canal Scenic Area – Night View:
As the flowers bloom in full in March, Wuxi becomes a haven for flower viewing. Our journey, though short, was filled with rich experiences, broadening our horizons and delighting our senses.
