Xiayunling National Forest Park, located in the southwest of Beijing, is a tourist destination that integrates vacationing, leisure, and health preservation. The park is renowned for its unique, special, and perilous landscapes. With over 1500 species of plants, the mountain’s rich botanical resources complement the peculiar peaks and lush forests, creating distinctive scenic areas such as the ‘Capital Tianshan’ – Baicaobian Natural Scenic Area and the ‘Ancient Dangerous Fort’ – Sanjiaocheng Natural Scenic Area.
The Northern Stone Forest in Xiayunling, situated in the southern garden, features unique geological relics. Under conditions where physical weathering exceeds chemical weathering, it has formed a variety of shapes such as tower-like, wall-like, slab-like, and table-like, with colorful and peculiar peaks and rocks, embodying the characteristics of ‘majestic, perilous, strange, illusory, and beautiful’ in the northern Chinese karst mountain landscape. The Capital Tianshan, centered around the main peak of Baicaobian, boasts a subalpine meadow about 20 kilometers long, with over 290 species of flowers and grasses. Over 50 kinds of shrubs form a ‘forest tunnel’ that releases a large amount of negative oxygen ions, and the intact peak cluster landscape constitutes the beauty of canyons, peak clusters, and ancient caves. The Dazu Mouse-eared Bat, found in the bat cave within the park, is a unique bat species in China, confirmed to be another fish-eating bat after the Mexican Rabbit-lipped Bat and the Sonoran Mouse-eared Bat. In addition to these, Xiayunling’s famous scenic spots also include the eight views on the mountain and the eight views at the foot of the mountain. The eight views on the mountain are Flowering Lilac and Clear Spring, Pavilion for Moon Viewing, Dawn at the Summit, Five Finger Peak, Sea of Clouds and Mist, City Lights of the Capital, Ancient Cypress, and Hundred Herbs on the Plateau. The eight views at the foot of the mountain are Angry Stone from Heaven, Sea of Pines, Thousand Mounds of Ant Hills, Prehistoric Relics, Kite Spreading Wings, Divine Cave and Fairy Path, Round City of Pine Forest, and Mother and Child Worshipping the Dragon. Including the eight views on the mountain and at the foot of the mountain, there are 106 named scenic spots in total. The park is open all year round, accessible 24 hours a day, with specific operating conditions subject to the day’s opening status.Xiayunling National Forest Park
