The Well-Tempered Clavier refers to a musical tuning system that uses a geometric progression to evenly divide an octave into twelve semitones, creating melodies with coherence and maintaining a consistent rhythm and timbre. This theory of musical tuning was first proposed by the Ming Dynasty musician Zhu Zaiyu and became famous through Bach’s ‘The Well-Tempered Clavier’. This rigorous compositional rule is akin to artist Zai Pengfei’s painting method, where the repetitive dots and lines drawn resemble musical notes, naturally evoking a sense of rhythm and melody, forming a static yet dynamic score, flowing and balanced. The exhibition is open from October 20th to November 24th, with specific business hours subject to the day’s opening status.
