Shangqing Palace is located in the southeast of Laoshan Mountain and to the northwest of Taiqing Palace. Originally situated on the mountain and known as Laoshan Temple, it is said that Zheng Kangcheng of the Han Dynasty once taught his disciples here. Reconstructed in the early Song Dynasty, Emperor Taizong bestowed the name Shangqing, but it was later destroyed by a mountain flood. During the Yuan Dynasty’s Dadu period, Taoist priests of the Huashan faction rebuilt it at its current location, with subsequent dynasties adding to its construction.

Taoist priest Qiu Chuji lived here during the Yuan Dynasty, leaving behind inscriptions, among which the ‘Qingyu An’ song and 10 seven-character quatrains are quite famous. Half a mile in front of the palace lies Qiu Chuji’s tomb, formerly known as Qiu Zu’s grave. There are also Yingxian and Chaozhen bridges, shaded by bamboo and trees, with the sound of pine and water creating a unique charm for those who walk through.

Shengshui Spring, one of the famous springs in Laoshan, flows out from the stone under the Bie Mountain, known for its sweet and clear water. Visiting this scenic spot mainly relies on walking, as vehicles are not allowed. Taking the aerial tramway from Taiqing Palace scenic area can directly lead to the northern part of the scenic spot, making the tour more convenient and time-saving.
