Yu-Chieh Hsiao was born in New Taipei City, Taiwan. She graduated from the Graduate Institute of Fine Arts, National Taiwan Normal University. Her creations take the particularity of materials as the main axis and focus on exploring the material atmosphere of rice paper and the subtle changes hidden in it. Through methods such as spraying, wrinkling, and kneading, rice paper shows rich visual layers. She constructs a visual structure with calm and rational thinking to balance the uncontrollable emotional expression in creation. This solo exhibition ‘Lean In and Watch’ and ‘There’s Nothing Abstract About That.’ not only serve as a hint but also form an interesting dialogue. It invites viewers to intuitively watch objects, focus on the appearance of materials in front of them, temporarily set aside the dependence on existing visual experiences, and experience the specific and clear aesthetic experience provided by the particularity of various media materials existing on the plane and in the environment from non-figurative pictures. The exhibition further questions how to view and understand things. Through the materiality of media materials such as rice paper and ink and the sense of space and touch created, it leads viewers to look directly at the current physical facts and deeply experience and reflect on the authenticity of existence. Opening hours: October 29 – December 15. The specific business status is subject to the opening situation on that day.
