Maja BEHRMANN, a German artist. Her first exhibition in Taiwan, ‘Polytope’, will make its debut at AKI Gallery on November 16, 2024 (Saturday). ‘Polytope’ is a ‘polyhedron’ existing in any dimension in geometry. This exhibition takes this as the theme to present the artist’s ever-changing narrative style at the spiritual level and re-examine all visible and sensible material worlds. ‘My works construct representativeness and can be regarded as an idealized form and an organization of principles and structures.’ Maja BEHRMANN was born in 1994. Since graduating from the Leipzig Academy of Visual Arts (Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst) majoring in painting and printmaking in 2017, she has continuously studied and explored the plasticity of plane painting. In recent creations, Behrmann has combined painting, printmaking, fabrics, sculptures and photography to play with various media. She transforms the exhibition venue into a performance stage, allowing shapes and objects to freely rehearse and combine, creating countless possibilities and looking for the subtle relationship between subordination and boundaries, seams and distances. When objects meet each other, a tension composed of attachment and separation, proximity and distance is generated, thus outlining the cohesion and openness between objects and showing diverse social interactivity. The interactive relationship and balanced structure among different parts, color blocks and forms seem to see a certain cosmic or social order. Shedding the abstract shell of high-dimensional existence, revealing the flesh of thoughts and emotions in the polyhedron, thinking about the structure of the universe and one’s own coordinate system. Even though it is not yet understood where all these explorations will lead, one still gropes for the possibility of progress step by step.
