Heqiao Ancient Town is located by the Liuxi River on the south side of Lin’an City. It is named after the large number of rivers and bridges. The buildings in the town are mainly in Huizhou style. It is an ancient town that is not very commercialized yet. Here is a part of the Liuxi River Scenic Area and also the end point of the Liuxi River rafting. Sitting on a bamboo raft and admiring the ancient town by the water gives people a feeling of walking into an ink painting. The shops on the old street of Heqiao still retain the style of ‘front store and back workshop’ in those years. You can see old stores such as ‘Xu Yilong’, ‘Jishan Hall’, ‘Chai Zhizhen’, ‘Hu Sensheng’, ‘Huiyuantang’, ‘Changnan Police Station’, and ‘Yuelu Carriage Company’. Through these courtyard walls with a historical flavor, you can still recall the grandeur and glory of the ancient town in those years. Here, the old buildings of the late Qing Dynasty are still there, the slogans of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression are still there, and the slogans of the Cultural Revolution can be seen everywhere. The Taiping Ditch on the old street is a characteristic landscape of the ancient town. The water is introduced from Puxi River and flows in front of every household. It is one meter wide and two meters deep. The exposed stone strips are flush with the road surface. There are mortise and tenon joints. Every once in a while, there is an open well and stone steps are built to facilitate residents to fetch water, wash rice, do laundry and for fire fighting. Opening hours: Open from 08:30 to 16:30 all year round. Supplementary notes on preferential policies: 1. Free admission groups: Children under 1.2 meters (inclusive) are free of charge.
