Hupao Park is located in the southwest mountain area of West Lake, home to the famous ‘Third Best Spring in the World’ – Hupao Dream Spring. Renowned for its sweet and mellow taste, Hupao Spring water is believed to have certain health benefits, often seen with locals carrying buckets to fetch water here. Brewing Longjing tea with Hupao Spring water is famously known as a ‘perfect match’. The area around Hupao Spring was originally Hu Pao Temple. It was named after the monk Xingkong from the Tang Dynasty who dreamt of a tiger digging out spring water here. This place is also the legendary resting place of the eminent monk Ji Gong, where you can visit attractions such as Ji Gong Hall and Ji Gong Pagoda Courtyard, the latter being the repository of Ji Gong’s remains. The modern art master Li Shutong (Master Hongyi) also took monastic vows here, and now there is a Li Shutong Memorial Hall, displaying over a hundred artifacts from Li Shutong’s life. Hupao Park boasts a serene environment, with a path winding up the mountain slope, featuring pavilions, spring pools, and Arhat Hall among other scenic spots. At the spring viewing point, you can see a statue of the tiger digging out the spring. The park, lush with foliage, is also an ideal place to escape the summer heat. Taking a break at the tea house here and sipping Longjing tea brewed with Hupao Spring water is an extremely pleasant experience. Opening hours are all year round from 07:00 to 17:30.
