Xiong Village, located 7 kilometers southeast of She County, is a typical Huizhou-style village. Originally named Hong Village, it was renamed Xiong Village after the Cao family migrated here at the end of the Yuan Dynasty. The villagers value education, and many famous officials have emerged from here, including the renowned father-son ministers from the Qing Dynasty, Cao Wenchuan and Cao Zhenrong. Compared to popular tourist spots like Hongcun and Xidi, Xiong Village is very peaceful. The Xin’an River meanders in front of the village, and April each year is an excellent time to visit, with rapeseed and peach blossoms in full bloom, creating a picturesque scene of the Xin’an River bank with white walls and black-tiled horse-head walls.

The Si Shi Yi Pin Archway, built in honor of Cao Wenzhi, stands tall and majestic in front of the Cao family’s ancestral hall at the entrance of the village. Walking straight along the road leads to the core scenic area of Xiong Village. In the direction of the Xin’an River, one can visit the isolated island ‘Xiao Nanhai’ on the river, where strange rocks and towering trees create a unique landscape.

Upon entering the village, one can see the Zhushan Academy, funded by the Cao brothers, Cao Jingtong and Cao Jingchen, during the reign of Emperor Qianlong. Inside the academy, on the large stone tablet in the Qingkuang Pavilion, the three characters ‘Mountain Sky’ are the authentic handwriting of Yan Zhenqing. In front of the academy, on the Taohua Dam by the Xin’an River, there are many peach trees, making it an ideal place to enjoy peach blossoms in spring. A hundred meters from the academy stands the Da Zhong Chen Archway from the Qianlong period, built for all the Jinshi (successful candidates in the imperial examinations) of the Cao family from the Ming Dynasty’s Cao Xiang to the Qing Dynasty’s Cao Wenzhi.

The Ciguang Temple faces the Zhushan Academy across the river, offering a tranquil environment. There are also relics of the Sino-American Cooperative Office in the village, with pictures and texts introducing the history of training special agents and exchanging intelligence with the American military. At the riverside wharf of the Xin’an River, visitors can also take a boat tour for a short distance.
