Ying Garden is located by the Yuhe River in Nanxun Town. It is the residential garden of Chen Xiong, one of the ‘eight bulls’ among the ‘four elephants, eight bulls, seventy-two piers and dogs’ of wealthy merchants in Nanxun in the Qing Dynasty. It was built in the first year of Tongzhi in the Qing Dynasty. It is exquisitely carved, quiet and elegant. People praise it for having the charm of the Lion Grove Garden in Suzhou. In the evening, flocks of birds come to the garden to perch, which is very interesting. Coming to Ying Garden, you can admire the towering ancient trees. Magnolia grandiflora, cinnamon and wisteria are planted in the garden, and many of them have a history of more than a hundred years. You can admire the pavilions built along the pool, climb the well-arranged Taihu Lake stone rockery, and look around the lakeside scenery leisurely under the long glass windows of the antique moon-viewing building. Ying Garden brings together vivid brick carvings, stone carvings and wood carvings, and is almost a small carving museum. On the floor-to-ceiling long windows of the ‘Qingfeng Piece’ where the Chen family received guests originally, some boxwood carvings of ‘Romance of the Western Chamber’ are still preserved and must be seen. On the brick walls on both sides of the hall, there are also exquisitely carved stone leaky windows embedded, showing endless artistic beauty in the small details of life.
