Desheng Rock, located approximately 13 kilometers north of the city, is also known as Chou Rock due to its densely layered mountains. It was named Chouzhou during the Tang Dynasty’s Wu De period (621 AD), and the rock is the origin of this name. Throughout history, it has been a popular destination for those seeking to climb high and enjoy the scenic views.

Desheng Rock stands at an elevation of 381.7 meters, which, compared to other famous mountains, may seem insignificant. However, as one ascends along the winding stone steps, the steepness of the climb becomes apparent. A scholar, leaning on his staff, once exclaimed in verse, ‘Leaning on my staff to climb high, how many heavens are there? Stepping on clouds, I look up and down, with stones hanging in the air.’

The Desheng Rock scenic area is home to many peculiar rocks and caves. On a mountaintop behind a temple, a massive stone turtle lies, crafted by the extraordinary skills of nature, its lifelike form is truly astonishing. Other attractions include the Nine Dragons Fighting for a Pearl Rock, Upper Rock Cave, Hong Rock Cave, and Guan Mountain.

On top of Desheng Rock, there is a temple, originally called the Heling Temple, which was built in the early Yuan Dynasty in memory of Song Dynasty’s Minister of War, Hu Ze. It is said that since the Yuan Dynasty, this place has been admired by locals. Scholars and literati flocked here, leaving behind numerous poems praising the moon and the wind.
