Zheng Banqiao is from Xinghua, Jiangsu Province. Renowned for his exceptional poetry, calligraphy, and painting, he is a famous painter, calligrapher, and writer in the Qing Dynasty and a leading figure of the ‘Eight Eccentrics of Yangzhou’. The former residence of Zheng Banqiao is an eight-room Qing Dynasty folk house building with a north-south orientation. It features white walls and black tiles, with sparse orchids and bamboos. Inside, there is a bronze-colored statue of Zheng Banqiao, reproductions of his calligraphy and paintings, and his daily utensils. From time to time, small-scale calligraphy and painting exhibitions are held in the former residence to promote Zheng Banqiao’s artistic achievements. The memorial hall has 1,181 collections, including 33 pieces of Zheng Banqiao’s calligraphy and painting inks, 348 pieces of calligraphy and paintings by Jin Nong, Min Zhen, Zheng Luan, Liu Xizai, and others, and 833 pieces of calligraphy and paintings created by contemporary celebrities in memory of Zheng Banqiao and Shi Nai’an. The basic exhibition is ‘The Life and Artistic Achievements of Zheng Banqiao’. It displays the ‘Genealogy of the Zheng Family in Zhaoyang’, the relics of the old man Banqiao, seven editions of ‘Collected Works of Zheng Banqiao’, reproductions and photos of Banqiao’s inks, as well as related research treatises, materials, scripts, inscriptions, legends, and stories. Open all year round from 08:30 to 17:30. Winter opening hours: 08:30 – 17:00.
