Zhang Shiyi’s former residence is situated with paddy fields in front and forests at the back, creating an elegant environment. The house was built during the Qianlong and Jiaqing reigns of the Qing Dynasty, over 200 years ago. Plaques such as ‘Xi Chao Ren Rui’ and ‘Xing Ju Kui Wen’ signify the splendor this grand house once possessed.

The residence is grand in scale and exquisite in craftsmanship, ranking among the few large houses in Wenzhou area, yet it is not widely known. Zhang Shiyi, named for being the eleventh child, had the Zhang family residence originally built in the eighth year of Qianlong’s reign (1743), later reconstructed by his father, Zhang Rihua, at the end of Qianlong’s reign. The Zhang residence consists of three sections and five halls, with 44 rooms and over 360 pillars. It is built along the central axis, with five gate towers on all sides, and a shared large courtyard outside, making the structure both refined and practical. The doors, beams, columns, and walls inside are all adorned with intricate carvings. Open from 1/1 to 12/31, 00:00-23:00.
