The Flower and Bird Lighthouse is located at the northwest end of Huaniao Island. It stands on the high and steep coast and was built by the British in the ninth year of Tongzhi in the Qing Dynasty. The tower body is cylindrical, 16.5 meters high, and the overall floor area is about 22,000 square meters. It is divided into four floors. The upper part is black and the lower part is white. This black and white cylindrical lighthouse has an elegant and simple British appearance and stands silently and serenely between the sea and the sky. It has witnessed the smoke of the war against the British. It is still an important lighthouse for Chinese and foreign ships entering ports such as Shanghai, Ningbo, and Zhoushan. The lighthouse has a complete set of navigation methods, including light waves, radio waves, and sound waves. It is also equipped with an aerosol horn with a relatively long transmission distance in China, which can provide different navigation methods for ships at different distances. The spotlight on the top floor of the lighthouse rotates once per minute. The four beams of light it emits can reach a range of 24 nautical miles and guide the course for ships in the vast sea.
