The total area of Wuzhen North Wetland is approximately 10.08 square kilometers. There are seven scenic spots including ‘Flying Snow of Autumn Reeds’, ‘Traces of Gaozhuang’, ‘Smoky Water of Fishing Village’, ‘Listening to Music on River Islets’, ‘Meeting Boats in Deep Pools’, ‘Seeking Plum Blossoms Along Curved Waters’, and ‘Autumn Colors of Persimmon Forests’, as well as two embankments, ‘Fudi’ and ‘Lüdi’. The North Wetland is the only rare wetland in China that integrates urban wetland, agricultural wetland and cultural wetland. It is also the first national wetland park in the country. The North Wetland contains five major cultural elements of ‘Buddhism, seclusion, common customs, leisure, and wildness’. The zoning characteristics are ‘secluded in the south, common customs in the north, bustling in the east, and quiet in the west’. The essence of Wuzhen culture is ‘one garden and five places’: Hongyuan Garden, the first performance place of Yue Opera, the holy land of poets, the birthplace of Water Margin, the place for literati to roam freely, and the place where folk customs are concentrated.
