Wuling Village is situated atop the ridge of Moganshan, with its elevated terrain offering expansive views. It stands apart from other scenic spots in Moganshan, embodying a sense of solitude akin to the ‘fishing alone’ imagery, much like the ‘Shangri-La’ described by Tao Yuanming in his writings about the people of Wuling, hence the name ‘Wuling Village’. Nearby attractions include the Wenjing Pavilion, Dicui Terrace, Xuguang Terrace, and the Ancient Tianchi. Standing high allows for a far-reaching view. Wuling Village is an excellent spot for sightseeing, with a lush green landscape stretching out before you. The Wenjing Pavilion, nestled among the trees, stands out with its distinct angles. The Dicui Pool shimmers with a soft glow, the Xuguang Terrace stands tall and proud, and the Ancient Tianchi offers a tranquil and serene experience.

What makes Wuling Village particularly noteworthy is its collection of villas. In 1894, an American missionary commissioned a local craftsman to build the first mountain summer retreat, which was a thatched cottage. Two years later, the first Moganshan villa, belonging to another American missionary, was constructed near the cottage. This marked the beginning of a proliferation of villas across the mountainside, eventually totaling 258 structures, making it a veritable villa museum! These villas, which blend Chinese classical, Western pastoral, and medieval European castle architectural styles, were favored by the upper class during the late Qing Dynasty and early Republic of China. For instance, Soong Mei-ling once stayed at the Pine Moon Cottage, and the Jue Yin Building was the former residence of Chen Shu Tong. There are countless such examples.

Visitors are advised to spend a day here. Strolling around the old villas, one can feel the depth of history and time. Additionally, one can savor local specialties such as Qian Zhang Baozi (thousand-layered buns), dried bamboo shoots, white lentils, red bean zongzi, and lake sheep. The scenic area is open all year round, with full-day access. For specific opening hours, please consult the scenic area.
